We are a husband and wife team who have enjoyed working together since we met online in 2004. Bonnie is a licensed clinical social worker and Jon has a MBA and a BS in mechanical engineering.
Up until 2014 (10 years), we ran a company that established a European TV Automation system in the Americas. Before us they had success in Europe and other continents and years of rejection by customers and distributors in the Americas: TV Automation is THE source of revenue of the TV station; is always on; and if the system fails, the person who bought it gets fired.
We got involved and sold the company's mission critical system into the USA, Mexico, Colombia, Barbados, Peru, Argentina and Brazil: over 20 mission-critical installations with yearly service contracts. Except for Barbados (a system we sold remotely and the one place we never visited!), we had distributors in all of those countries, and in Costa Rica and Ecuador.
From: Years of zero profit
To: Profitable and ready to explode ($2+M in sales the year we faded out)
We stood on bare concrete floors at trade shows responsible for everything to come together. Hired. Prospected. Brought the industry's flagship customer to the demo, webinars, reference sites, contract signing. Did the same with the other customers and then distributors in the market. Then faded out. Then had to be full time parents. All good training for a salesperson to become seasoned at: influencing others to take action.
Gaining the flagship customer of the Latin American TV market was the key that unlocked the door back then: a 4 year selling cycle. Very complex and very multi-level. In the end we gained the trust ($billions in ad revenue) and business of the largest and most sought after customers in the Latin American region:
- Televisa Canales: The source signal of Mexico's largest TV network to 200+ regional TV stations and to the world, seen on Univision in the US
- Telefonica Peru: The cable hub in Peru servicing South America with ad insertion
- Claro TV in Mexico City and in Colombia: First two installations of the new playout system for all 19 Claro TV stations in South America
